Day 13, happy 13, will be the last full day on this trip. Tomorrow will just be wake-up-and-shower-and-get-to-the-airport-and-home. Starting slowly today, walking down to Kolaportið to get some harðfiskur for my dad and sister (they, too, love this).
Yesterday night was eventful for all of the town’s football fans, Read more…
Now, a new blog entry about this tiny city at the northwest of Europe. It seems to me Reykjavík must be the Nordic countries capital of culture. This is of course not official and I guess quite a few people disagrees, but nevertheless my opinion. Read more…
Woke up and it felt like I’d be sleeping most of the day, but it was only half past nine, so with the right amount of will, I could have even had breakfast for free at the hotel, but I decided against it. I emailed my contact at the travel agency, Þóra Árnadóttir, the other day and pointed her to my writings about the Hótel Björk breakfast, and she asked me if it had gotten any better, so she might have talked to them. Day seven – almost halfway through. Should have had more time and more money and more everything, but I guess I can’t complain much. Walked into town again I went by Grái kötturinn to see if it was open, and though the door was open, the gate in front of it was not – still closed for maintenance. Read more…
Yet another sunny day, temperatures up to 15 degrees and I’ve been around photographing new parts of town. Back at Prikið for some food (I’m not going to eat at that hotel again). Read more…

Hildigunnur invited me to her house to dine with her husband, Jón Lárus Stefánsson, so yesterday I went there and was served Tagliatelle Bolognese (the real one from Bologna, not the common restaurant one, she underlined) and wine (starting with very good chianti, ending with a brilliant French one (don’t remember its name). Yet another day is passing and I’m continuing to like this place. The weather has been everything yr.no has said it shouldn’t be, or at least it feels way better than what they report, so I guess we can conclude that weather experience is quite subjective. Read more…
I started the day with walking to Reykjavík’s largest shopping centre, Kringlan, in search for a prepaid phone card and found that (+354 615-1763), plus some new shoes. Last night, it was pouring down, and my old shoes didn’t like that took it all out on my feet. Read more…
I’ve never written a travel blog, but having the time to do so, I thought why not
Tuesday August 25
Got up, out to a waiting taxi, to Gardermoen, fligh SK 4787 (plane LN-RRY) to Reykjavík, landed about 12:00 local time, Flybus to Reykjavík (whoever came up with that name, I don’t know, it doesn’t seem related to icelandic – airplane is flugvél – so where that fly came from, I don’t know). Checked in at Hotel Björk, which seems to have about as much in common with the artist as it has with the wood (björk means birch), that is, nothing. The hotel seems ok, and after helping the receptionist to patch the right network outlet, even networking works
